A Short Message About Sara...

After an 18 month battle with AML and ALL (two types of Leukemia), Sara passed away, at home, with family by her side on Monday morning, age 6.

Over the last 6 months her family spent many weekends doing the things Sara loved -- spending time at the beach, visiting her grandmother in the Bay Area, drawing, traveling, and many other things. We knew this was a possibility, but chose to cherish and celebrate her remaining life instead of holing her up in a hospital. That was the right decision.

The outpouring of support throughout this battle has been a truly inspirational miracle -- we have met more kind-hearted strangers than we could ever imagine, and received so much from generous supporters as we fought to bring Sara through her cancer battle. We hope that Sara's strength in the face of disease, love in the face misery, and smile in the face of pain gives each of you a new hope for what is possible.

Through the work done to save Sara, other patients will find marrow donors in the years to come and go on to live happy lives -- this is Sara's legacy, and for that we are so very grateful.

Thank you to each of you who have worked so hard for Sara, and please always remember that no child should go through what she has ... and that increasing the number of willing Asian donors will ensure that. Please support marrow donation, and cherish those whom you love.

If you'd like to leave any comments or share how Sara may have touched your life, please feel free!

We were so sorry to hear about Sara's passing--we'd been keeping up with her situation on the website from time to time after hearing about her on the APC email group for China adoptive parents.

Please know our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time.

Sara,
My heart is breaking with the news but knowing that your pain and suffering have ceased somehow lessens the hurt the tiny tiniest bit. I imagine you are just as beautiful and strong and brave up there in Heaven as you were on earth. You are loved all the way around the world, sweet Sara, and so much work and so many good things will happen because of your life and the way you lived it. I will carry your exquisite smile in heart forever. See you one day, sweet angel!

It is with deep saddness that I read about the passing of your daughter. As a "mom" of four adopted children I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child. I hope you find comfort in all the postitive things you and others have experienced and accomplished in your fight to help your daughter.
All our prayers, my four girls will say a special prayer for your family tonight, and thank God for thier health.
Sharon

How sad to hear that Sara is gone. I am truly inspired by the energy that Sara and the rest of the family have shown in keeping life's best focus: on living Life and joy and celebration, keeping up that ability, and tranquility, and determination, even when facing such staggering odds.

I know this has been a very hard struggle. And while the struggle is over for sweet Sara, there are still more steps for Ginger, Robert, Kelsey, Justin, Verna, Kate, and the rest of the family and friends, to mend the hole left in all our hearts, to grieve and, even harder, continue on finding every ounce of joy we can in full lives without Sara around.

The struggle to find a marrow donor brought many people together and will have long-lasting wonderful effects. I hope that all the struggles and celebrations remaining to us can do the same.

Both Sid and I awoke this morning to a light rain and thought," the earth is mourning for Sara." We are so fortunate to have known such a wonderful and feisty little girl. She touched our hearts with her playfulness and her will to live. We know she is in a much better place now. We can only hope to meet her again in Heaven. We grieve with those she's left behind, especially Robert, Ginger & Kelsey. Sara will always have a very special place in our hearts.
