A Short Message About Sara...

After an 18 month battle with AML and ALL (two types of Leukemia), Sara passed away, at home, with family by her side on Monday morning, age 6.

Over the last 6 months her family spent many weekends doing the things Sara loved -- spending time at the beach, visiting her grandmother in the Bay Area, drawing, traveling, and many other things. We knew this was a possibility, but chose to cherish and celebrate her remaining life instead of holing her up in a hospital. That was the right decision.

The outpouring of support throughout this battle has been a truly inspirational miracle -- we have met more kind-hearted strangers than we could ever imagine, and received so much from generous supporters as we fought to bring Sara through her cancer battle. We hope that Sara's strength in the face of disease, love in the face misery, and smile in the face of pain gives each of you a new hope for what is possible.

Through the work done to save Sara, other patients will find marrow donors in the years to come and go on to live happy lives -- this is Sara's legacy, and for that we are so very grateful.

Thank you to each of you who have worked so hard for Sara, and please always remember that no child should go through what she has ... and that increasing the number of willing Asian donors will ensure that. Please support marrow donation, and cherish those whom you love.

If you'd like to leave any comments or share how Sara may have touched your life, please feel free!

Robert, Ginger, and Kelsey-My thoughts and prayers are with you as you begin to deal with the loss of such a beautiful little angel. Sara was such an inspiration to me. She was always so full of love and laughter and nothing could ever seem to bring her down. I will always remember her blanket, her beautiful paintings, her never arguing when she had to wear that large mask that covered almost her entire face. She was a beautiful gift from God and she will truly be missed. I am blessed to have gotten to care for Sara during her many inpatient visits on Craycroft. I am also blessed to have gotted to form a friendship with your family. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you, but remember that Sara is now at peace and CANCER FREE!!!

With Loving Thoughts,
Tiffany Rivard (RN) Craycroft

I've only met Sara and her family once when they made a long trip to San Diego in support of Sara's first marrow drive in SoCal in December '04. I remember giving Sara a piggy-back ride, she drew pictures for us, and we had a ton of fun bowling. And although I only met Sara once, I can only feel like Sara and Kelsey are my own sisters. They are both loving, charming, unique, and beautiful young ladies. This is an experience I will never forget.

It is hard to lose a sister (my mom lost her's several years ago and I have a sister of my own), and my family does get sad thinking back about her every once in a while. But at the same time, we are reminded of her spirit and we remind ourselves of what we learned from them... their strength, courage, love, fun, and beautiful smiles. I have the same wonderful thoughts about Sara.

Sara, Kelsey, Robert, and Ginger, a family is forever. And our hearts are with you.

Ginger, Robert & Kelsey,
I've sat here at least 5 times to write my thoughts to you and each time I am speechless. I cannot express my sympathy for your loss. It is overwhelming. My prayer for you is for strength and healing. Kelsey, the email you posted represents exactly what God planned when he created sisters. I hope the wonderful memories you have will soon outnumber the sad times you're experiencing. Know that you have a grieving community right outside your door that loves you all very much. God Bless your family,
Robin

Sara(my sister)was the most insperational person I will ever know. She touched so many hearts. I know now that having a sister was the best experience of my life.It scares me to think that every day hundreds of kids die and that so many families have to go through with the same thing mine did. Sara will always be in our hearts and will stay there forever.
