A Short Message About Sara...

After an 18 month battle with AML and ALL (two types of Leukemia), Sara passed away, at home, with family by her side on Monday morning, age 6.

Over the last 6 months her family spent many weekends doing the things Sara loved -- spending time at the beach, visiting her grandmother in the Bay Area, drawing, traveling, and many other things. We knew this was a possibility, but chose to cherish and celebrate her remaining life instead of holing her up in a hospital. That was the right decision.

The outpouring of support throughout this battle has been a truly inspirational miracle -- we have met more kind-hearted strangers than we could ever imagine, and received so much from generous supporters as we fought to bring Sara through her cancer battle. We hope that Sara's strength in the face of disease, love in the face misery, and smile in the face of pain gives each of you a new hope for what is possible.

Through the work done to save Sara, other patients will find marrow donors in the years to come and go on to live happy lives -- this is Sara's legacy, and for that we are so very grateful.

Thank you to each of you who have worked so hard for Sara, and please always remember that no child should go through what she has ... and that increasing the number of willing Asian donors will ensure that. Please support marrow donation, and cherish those whom you love.

If you'd like to leave any comments or share how Sara may have touched your life, please feel free!

Ginger,Robert, and Kelsey-I am so sorry to know of Sara's death. I am glad for the depth of the love you shared. As I looked through your photo galleries at all the gorgeous Sara smiles I thought of my own way-too-young-to-die sister Dana. Because our accident took place on August 15th, with that special memorial in Visalia, Sara will become part of my family remembrance each year.

I love you, Louise

Linda, Kailee and I were so terribly sorry to hear from Ginger and Justin that sweet, little Sara passed away. It felt like a kick in the gut, especially since Kailee has yet to find a match for her second transplant. We are even more determined to encourage people, of all ethnicity, to become committed potentially donors, so little ones like Sara could enjoy a future, and families like hers would be spared the gut-wrenching anguish of losing a child.

Just want to say (with tears in my eyes) I am so sorry for your lose. I know how hard it was/is/will be since I lost my daughter (2 year old) to AML 4 years ago. Time will ease the pain, but it will never ever go away.

Shirley and I and our whole prayer group here in Fayeteville,NC have been so involved with Sara for so many months. We are very saddened the news I just recieved today Aug 22, but we know that she is in the other Heaven. She just left the heaven here on Earth where she experienced the wonderful love and sights, smells, and sounds of all the special places that you, Ginger, Robert and Kelsey, carried her. And what a very great legacy that you have set up for her ---to help others. Our love to you and special feelings and ties that go back 34 years, Shirley and al hartness. We will stay in touch.

Dear Ginger, Robert and family, We're so sorry to hear about Sara. I will always remember her gorgeous smile and the fun time she has with us at Family Camp. Though you could not give her more years to her life or ultimately find the bone marrow match, it was obviously you were outstanding in giving her a beautiful life full of love and isn't that what all children need the most. Love, Donna Oreizi
