end of the school year   (by Robert)

Wednesday, June 1st, Sara went to clinic to get platelets early in the morning and managed to be back in time to attend her first grade class's year end swim party. Everyone had a wonderful time. Thursday Sara did a little home work, it's difficult to be too motivated this time of year and then attended a birthday party for all the first graders who celebrate their birthdays during the summer. What a great way to begin Summer vacation!

a little trip   (by Robert)

Sara is looking forward to visiting the San Luis Obispo area this weekend. Our family plans on being at the bone marrow drive being held at the Nazarene Church in San Luis Obispo. Sara and her aunt made lots of chocolate chip cookies today so we'dhave something to munch on during our trip. We will also be visiting our cousin Justin who just returned from China.

Back from a Visit With Sara   (by Justin)

I just got back from a short visit with Sara and her family at their home in Central California. Sara had a heavy dose of chemotherapy about 2 weeks ago, but after coming home quickly developed a fever which landed her back in the hospital. Robert and Ginger took turns staying with her in the hospital for the 8 days it took to get the fever under control, while the other looked after Kelsey and "normal" life.

Sara was released from the hospital on Tuesday, so she got back home shortly after I arrived. The hospital is wearing on her, but she's been a trooper to put up with the poking, prodding, and everything else. On Wednesday, we (Robert, Ginger, Sara, and myself) went up to Sequoia National Park to see the giant sequoia trees. We hada nice picnic on a rock (the only thing that wasn't snow covered!) while all bundled up to stay warm. Robert, Ginger, and I all sat on the rock and eventually found our bottoms too cold to keep sitting ... Sara, smart as she is, found a more comfortable spot of Robert's lap! :)

Some days are good, while others aren't so good, but everyone continues to work hard for Sara while she fights the leukemia in her little body. We continue to search for a marrow donor for Sara and do everything possible fight the leukemia and try to give Sara a happy childhood at the same time.

Thank you for your prayers, kind words, and support!

another visit to Valley Children's   (by Robert)

After spending a day in the clinic receiving platelets and blood Sara developed a fever Monday night and was admitted back into Valley Children's. Sara is still generally in good spirits but is beginning to be bothered by mouth sores.

The local blood center is sponsoring two blood and marrow drives this weekend. A couple more drives are also being organized locally. Many thanks to everyone who has participated in the many drives held recently in southern California, the bay area, centralCalifornia, Minnesota and New York. Knowing that there are many people stepping forward to help Sara and others like her is very encouraging. Thank you all so much.

March 2, 2005 a day at school   (by Robert)

Sara spent a whole day at school today, she loves to eat lunch with her classmates. When she came home she worked on a Chinese mural with a local artist. Dad's imitations while helping sister Kelsey with her homework generated lots of laughter.

After being treated with high-dose anticancer drugs and/or radiation, the patient receives the harvested stem cells, which travel to the bone marrow and begin to produce new blood cells.
